With Dylan Bundy heading to the injured list, it’s now hard to believe the Baltimore Orioles will be able to trade him at the deadline.

The Baltimore Orioles made their first significant trade of 2019 Saturday when they shipped starting pitcher Andrew Cashner to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for prospects Elio Prado and Noelberth Romero.

Trading Cashner is undoubtedly only the first of many trades Mike Elias and company will make as they look to continue to bolster their farm system.

One name that many speculated could get moved is starting pitcher Dylan Bundy. The former top prospect has yet to turn into the dominant pitcher the Orioles hoped he’d be, but he is still only 26 years-old and with a change of scenery could take the next step towards being a reliable starting pitcher.

However, all trade rumors are likely now on hold after Bundy was placed on the 10 day-injured list with right knee tendinitis that may keep him out for several weeks.

After a brutal April, Bundy turned things around in May. He pitched to a 2.64 ERA in five May starts holding opposing hitters to a .195 average against. Unfortunately he struggled again in June and July and now is sidelined with an injury.

Despite the struggles, the Orioles likely would have been able to obtain a decent package for Bundy. He is still just 26 and making an affordable 1.8 million dollars per year. Similarly to Kevin Gausman last season a trade could help Bundy as he may simply need a new destination to get his carer on track.

It seems however all hopes of a trade are on hold now as it’s unlikely any teams will give prospects for a pitcher who is going to miss much of the playoff push.

Expect Bundy to stay an Oriole for the remainder of 2019 and potentially until at least the 2020 July trade deadline.
