The Baltimore Orioles drop another series making it 14 without a win.
It was a familiar this sight for the Baltimore Orioles who dropped yet another series this week after losing two out of three games to the division rival Blue Jays at Camden Yards.
The Orioles continued their trend of winning the series opener as they took down Toronto Tuesday night, but they dropped the final two games of the series as Baltimore’s pitching staff allowed a combined 20 runs to the young Blue Jays Wednesday and Thursday night.
Despite another rough set of ball-games, three young players continued to impress. They star in our three takeaways from the Orioles recent series with the Toronto Blue Jays.
John Means keeps on dealing
Tuesday night saw John Means put together yet another fantastic start for the Baltimore Orioles. The left-hander tossed five innings allowing just one run while striking out seven Blue Jays.
With the victory Means improved to 6-4 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.60. In his last seven starts, Means has pitched to a 2.48 ERA and won three of his four decisions.
In a lost season, Means is giving Orioles fans something to be excited to watch as it’s been quite the sight each time he toes the slab.
Chance Sisco has made most of opportunity
Catcher Chance Sisco continued to impress this week as he caught all three games of the Toronto series.
Tuesday Sisco went 1-3 with a walk and an RBI, Wednesday the 24-year-old went 2-4 with a walk and drove in two runs and Thursday…
Though Sisco may not be the Orioles catcher of the future with Adley Rutschman set to enter the fold in the next few years he may just be proving that he belongs with the Orioles long term in a different role.
Anthony Santander is turning heads
The Orioles recalled Anthony Santander to replace Dwight Smith Jr. before last weekend’s series in Houston, and thus far the 24-year-old has done an outstanding job.
In this week’s series with the Blue Jays Santander recorded a pair of three-hit games and Thursday tied the game at two with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
After batting a miserable .198 in 33 big league games in 2018 Santander is batting .385 in 2019. It’s quite the improvement for a player looking to prove his worth for the organization going forward.
Tomorrow the Orioles will host the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series as they look to play spoiler against their struggling division rival.
