Rumors started during the Winter Meetings and Mike Elias denied them, but it is NOW official.  The Baltimore Orioles have hired Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde to be their next manager

Brandon Hyde becomes the 20th manager in Baltimore Orioles history.  The good news about Hyde is that he’s also served as a director of player development which means he’s good at evaluating talent.

Hyde and Mike Elias will be able to collaborate when it comes to player movement and if they see potential in prospects. Former Orioles manager Buck Showalter knew players, but he was stubborn and didn’t like change.

Elias only interviewed six candidates and he knew what he wanted from the start. He had a list of former managers and candidates without managerial experience, but had director of player personnel or development experience.

So far, all of Mike Elias’s hires since taking over as General Manager have been well received in the baseball community. Here’s to another successful hire and someone that can bring a winner to the Baltimore Orioles Organization.

What we know about Brandon Hyde is that he’s been a coach for the Florida Marlins before they changed the name and the Chicago Cubs. He’s been part of winning organizations and that should help the Baltimore Orioles tremendously.

Hyde also brings with him a good list of coaches that will be part of his staff to bring out the best in each and every player. Let’s hope he can bring in a great pitching coach to help improve a pitching staff that underperformed in 2018.

I was hoping Mike Elias would hire Mike Bell, but I’m just happy they have someone in place that can get the ball rolling. Here’s to the Baltimore Orioles and Brandon Hyde bringing multiple championships to the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Are you happy with the Baltimore Orioles hiring Brandon Hyde?
