Baltimore Orioles General Manager Mike Elias confirmed on Monday that he’s interviewed six candidates for manager of the Baltimore Orioles. He’s hoping to have one hired by the New Year

Mike Elias addressed the media at the winter meetings on Monday, confirming that the Baltimore Orioles would hire one of six candidates, hopefully by the end of December.

The six managerial candidates that the Baltimore Orioles have interviewed are: Arizona Diamondbacks director of player development Mike Bell, former Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta, Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde, Kansas City Royals quality control and catching coach Pedro Grifol, Colorado Rockies bench coach Mike Redmond, and Washington Nationals bench coach Chip Hale.

Of the six candidates interviewed by Mike Elias, three of them have been managers in the Major Leagues before. Chip Hale, Mike Redmond, and Manny Acta all have managed previously, but all have losing records.

Manny Acta has a record of 372-518 in six seasons as a manager for the Nationals and Indians.

Mike Redmond has a record of 155-207 in three years as a manager for the Miami Marlins. The last candidate with managerial experience is Chip Hale and he has a 148-176 record in two seasons as the Arizona Diamondbacks manager.

I’m not totally sure what Mike Elias is looking for in his next manager, but you would think he wants someone fresh and new who is big into analytics like he and assistant Sig Mejdal. He could always go for the candidates that have zero managing experience.

Since the Baltimore Orioles are going through a roster rebuild, would any of the candidates with managerial experience want to be part of a rebuild that could last three to four years?

I’m intrigued by Mike Bell. He seems like someone who knows how to evaluate talent and who could be a good fit and a good match for him and Mike Elias.

Who would you rather the Baltimore Orioles hire as the next manager?  Someone with experience already or someone fresh and new?
