After the Orioles got him a big, early lead in his first start, Chen failed to get through five innings, only going 4.1 while giving up three runs. The Orioles ended up holding on to win, but Chen’s short outing cost him the victory.

Chen was much better in his second start against the Yankees, and he left with the lead. However, Chen’s bullpen let him down, allowing a grand slam to Stephen Drew, which cost him, and the team, the victory.

Let’s talk about members of the Red Sox with success against Chen. This could take a while.

Pedroia is 14-for-27; Ortiz is 8-for-21 with a homerun; Nava is 7-for-16; Victorino is 4-for-10; and Xander Bogaerts is 3-for-10. Napoli has struggled against Chen, going 3-for-17, but with the numbers some of the other guys have against him, Napoli might be the only guy Chen gets out.

    Justin Masterson, RHP – BOS

Masterson got the win in his first start, giving up two runs over six innings against Philadelphia. He suffered a much worse fate against Washington on Tuesday, giving up seven runs over 4.2 innings.

The only Oriole with significant success against Masterson is De Aza, who is 11-for-34 against Masterson in his career.
