In 2014, Baltimore Orioles fans got a sneak peek at what Christian Walker. In 2015, Charm City faithful may see Walker with more regularity in an Orioles uniform.
The 2014 season was an extremely important one for Walker’s development. During the 2013 season, Walker only hit 11 home runs between Low-A Delmarva and High-A Frederick. It seemed like Walker was going to just be a gap hitter without much power.
Those thoughts on Walker quickly dissipated in 2014 as Walker began to club the ball out of the ballpark.
In 2014, he hit 20 home runs with 77 RBI in Double-A Bowie. Once he was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk, he hit another six home runs with 19 RBI.
He was rewarded for his outstanding performance by making his major league debut on September 17th, 2014. The next night he hit his first major league home run in Camden Yards to straight-away center field.
The depth chart at first base for the 2015 season while most likely go (1) Chris Davis, (2) Steve Pearce, (3) Christian Walker. However, with the uncertainty of Davis being able to rebound from his lackluster performance last season and Pearce possibly being needed in the outfield, Walker may be getting more starts at first base.
The Orioles have plenty of right-handed bats, but some much needed power is needed in the lineup for the Orioles. If Walker is able to continue to find his power stroke this spring, he will be on Baltimore’s active roster come Opening Day.
