We’re going to keep the column pretty simple today. Last week was a busy week for the Baltimore Orioles in the sense that a major piece of 2014 departed, along with a major piece of 2014 and the history of the franchise. However the process of remedying those situations will probably start in earnst this coming week as the baseball community descends on San Diego for MLB’s annual Winter Meetings.

Stay tuned to Birds Watcher all week for daily updates as to what’s going on regarding the Orioles and even a few other tidbits from around the league. Keep in mind that while a lot of business gets done at these meetings in terms of free agents and trades, there are plenty of other happenings as well. You’ll remember that last year the preliminary reports about the depths of instant replay came from the winter meetings. Given the year that was in the sense that we worked through so many nuances with replay, I would expect that to be a hot topic as well.
In the past the Orioles have said that they were hoping to bring a new player home from the winter meetings, but that hasn’t always materialized. Given that there are certainly holes at this point, I think that most fans are hoping they’re able to swing some sort of deal this week. But time will tell.
