Baltimore Orioles to party on South Beach

In looking at the 2015 schedule, the AL East will be playing the NL East in interleague play. That means that the Baltimore Orioles will play the normal home-and-home series with Washington (in September), and they’ll also play a home-and-home with Philadephia in June. So there will be some “local” road games in a sense for Orioles fans.

However the one series that really caught my eye is over Memorial Day weekend when the O’s pack up and head south – to be exact, to South Beach. As in Miami Beach, Florida. The O’s will take on the Miami Marlins in a three-game weekend set. I’ve always considered myself to be a “northeast” type of guy in that the culture in the south is just so different from what I’m used to. However I’m a big fan of the city of Miami and South Florida in general. (And yes folks, keep in mind that Florida while geographically might be the south, doesn’t really feel like the south!) How can one really argue with eternal summer?!

Miami also has a new ballpark which opened a few years ago; a friend of mine has been to a game down there, and he said it’s not a bad place to watch a game. So while Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore is supposed to signal the first trip out to Ocean City, I would highly recommend that folks consider hitting the road with the O’s. You can still obviously go to the beach and enjoy the exact same things that you otherwise would at our beaches in the mid-Atlantic region. However why not do that for just one weekend in South Florida, while enjoying Orioles baseball?!
