After the South Atlantic League All Star Game took place last week, some Delmarva All Stars packed their bags and moved more than two hours up the road to their new team: the Single-A Frederick Keys. Players involved in the move included Trey Mancini and Mike Yastrzemski.
While Mancini is starting off well with the Keys by batting .278 in just four games with five RBIs to show for, Yastrzemski is excelling in Frederick.
In just four games played and only 14 at bats to his name, Yastrzemski has taken full advantage of it. In his first game with Frederick, he went 2-5 with two singles. In the top of the second inning, “Yaz” drove the ball to center field for one of these singles, scoring a run in the process.
The next night Yaz went 1-3. He hit another single that night in the top of the tenth inning. After getting on base, he stole second base and eventually scored thanks to an RBI single from Tucker Nathans which proved to be the decider. That night Yaz also recorded two more RBIs off of two sacrifice flies to left field earlier in the game.
The past two nights Yastrzemski recorded two more singles (one in each game). After tonight’s game, Yastrzemski is batting .333 with three RBIs. He is continuing his great season in the Orioles Farm System. Before coming to Frederick, Yaz was batting .306 with a .365 on-base percentage and 34 extra base hits.
Although he has only played with Frederick for four games now, he is off to a good start and pretty soon fans will be seeing this “triple machine” be doing just that for Frederick… hitting triples.
