Moments ago, the ALCS match-up was determined thanks to a game 5 road win by the Detroit Tigers.
The ALDS match-up between the Rays and Rangers wasn’t as exciting. The Rays weren’t expected to make the play-offs and they did win the first game of the series 9-0 due to a hot streak, but they weren’t good enough to compete with the powerful offense of Texas. The Rangers went on to outscore the Rays 16 to 12 in the final three games of the series. Though four more runs in three games isn’t a lot, it was enough for the Rangers to take the series.
The other ALDS match-up was a great one. The pitching staff of the Tigers up against that potent Yankee offense. What a good series it turned out to be. I really don’t like 5-game series so to see one go to 5 games, I was definitely excited about that. I just don’t think 3 wins is enough because a not-so-great team could get on a hot streak and win three games before getting swept in the next round for a boring series. That extra game needed in the 7-game series is crucial to me but I digress. Anyways, this may be one of the best match-ups all postseason.
After the awful umpiring done with the weather issue on the first night, the Yankees took game one 9-3 with their rookie superstar Ivan Nova on the mound. However, Detroit’s second ace Scherzer led the tigers to a 5-3 win in Game 2 in New York. The Tigers headed home and took a close one 5-4 to lead the series 2-1. However, the Yankees didn’t go quietly and won game four 10-1, showcasing that intense offensive line-up and forcing a game 5. After the 10-run put-up, I bet a ton of people in Detroit were scared. However, their Tigers didn’t disappoint them with a close, great win in New York 3-2 defeating the Nova to earn their ticket to the ALCS.
It was a wonderful sight seeing the Yankees pouting in their dugout and their fans dumbfounded in the stands looking on as the Tigers jumped around like little boys in the middle of the field. Red Sox done. Yankees done. What more could we want?
