Holiday Season Charity Drive

To begin the holiday season, BirdsWatcher and FanSided have partnered with Site5 to raise money for The Boys and Girls Club of America. The organization was chosen because as a sports blogging network, we value the importance of providing children with a safe environment to prosper, which often is done by playing sports. We are grateful for the continued growth of FanSided and our great hosting network (Site5) and are happy to give back to a great cause. Members of our organization are giving back and we ask you and your family to help us contribute. Our goal is $5,000 over the FanSided network and we hope with your cooperation we can shatter that mark.

The time of the year has come to give thanks…here are some of the things I am grateful for in regards to our Orioles (well, mostly).

  • Camden Yards will receive a catering and food face-lift beginning next season. Was desperately needed, in my opinion.
  • All reports so far have pointed to Brian Roberts being completely healthy. He sets the table for our lineup and everyone else fits nicely after Roberts.
  • The young nucleus of pitchers in the majors and minors. Matusz, Tillman, Arietta, Hernandez, Bergesen, Erbe, and Britton to name a few. Matusz has already shown he can be a dominant starting pitcher. If two or three of the other young pitchers pan out, we have a starting rotation solidified for years to come.
  • Sunday night television: Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, and football
  • We have maybe the best community role model as the face of our franchise: Nick Markakis. The right fielder is known for being a quiet, well-mannered player who created a community charity for the city of Baltimore with his wife, Christina.
  • Listening to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West on repeat.
  • Owner Peter Angelos beginning to take a hands-off approach (about time?) to running the organization in the last several years.
  • The Yankees playing hardball with Derek Jeter this off-season. For a player who posted Marco Scutaro numbers last season, he is asking for nearly Alex Rodriguez money (who is also overpaid). However, does anyone actually think Jeter won’t return to the Yanks? He is the Yankees. All of this contract drama is nice to hear, but expect him starting at shortstop for the pinstripes next season.
  • My friends and family. I can be a handful and I’m lucky to have them!
