Koji Uehara Defeats Yankees

Koji Uehara had a very good game. He pitched 5 full innings, giving up 1 run, and 5 hits. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous when he walked Jeter to start off the game. I know some people were a little concerned that he didn’t strike anybody out, but he kept the ball in play and in the ballpark, which is all you can ask for.

The base running at the beginning of the game was very sloppy with Huff getting picked off trying to steal third, and Zaun’s base running error that could of cost us a run. I know that Trembley always preaches good decisions while on base, hopefully they tighten them mistakes up tomorrow.

The offense was productive once again, putting up 7 runs. Markakis went 3 for 3 with a walk, and a timely homer once the Yankees pulled within 1. I also have to mention that I am very impressed with Zaun so far. He’s had huge hits the past 2 games, good job behind the plate, and keeping the pitcher calm on the mound. Only downside so far is that he couldn’t throw out a turtle trying to steal a base.

The bullpen made the end of the game pretty scary, but thankfully Sherrill pulled it off.  Although, Sarfate almost blew the game, you would have to expect him to come back out his next outing and put away hitters like he did most of last season.  We have to remember, players have off nights; something we forget early in the season. I would like to touch on one more thing, Baez did a great job on the mound tonight. Baez, pitched 2 full innings not giving up a hit, nor a walk. If he keeps that up for a while, he would certainly knock somebody out of the starting rotation.
