Pitcher Of The Month: Asher Wojciechowski

The legend of Asher Wojciechowski in Baltimore was born in July. Two years after opting out of his minor league contract with the Orioles Wojciechowski returned to Birdland in July of 2019 and was immediately slotted in the Orioles starting rotation.

After two rough starts to start the month, a brief relief appearance on July 12th began to turn his month around. He pitched 0.2 innings of scoreless baseball against the Rays before rejoining the rotation July 16th where he held a red-hot Nationals team to just three runs.

Then on July 21st in a rubber match with the rival Red Sox Wojciechowski made national headlines. The 30-year-old journeyman took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as he finished his day earning the victory after tossing 7.1 scoreless innings of one-hit ball and struck out 10 Boston hitters. Not only did Wojciechowski put together the Orioles best pitching performance of the year he did it against the defending world champions who currently lead baseball in runs scored.

In a follow up performance on July 26th Wojciechowski again tossed seven innings as he held Mike Trout and the Angels to just two runs as he earned a second straight victory.

Wojciechowski ended the month with a 3.60 ERA and held batters to an average of .183. If Wojciechowski can sustain the success, he may just put himself in the conversation to join John Means as current Orioles who may be rotation pieces for a long time in Birdland.
