In case you haven’t noticed, we’re taking a bit of a breather here at Birds Watcher now that the season’s over by publishing a few of what I would call “soft articles.” However as the week moves on I’ll publish a season recap, at which point we’ll jump full-throttle into the off season. However for today I’d like to make mention of spring training 2014 for the Baltimore Orioles. We’ve obviously got a long ways to go before arriving to that point, however I would highly recommend that Orioles’ fans get their reservations made and get down to Sarasota to check out a few games.
The Orioles moved into Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota back in 2010, and the experience has improved each year. The O’s have set attendance records each of the last few seasons, earning Sarasota the nickname of “Birdland South.” The ballpark has been totally renovated and revamped over a long period of time, and it’s gotten rave reviews each year. To give it even more of a Baltimore feel, some of the original seats from Oriole Park at Camden Yards were shipped down there and installed into the park.
Fans can fly into Sarasota’s airport, however it’s probably easier to fly to Tampa and rent a car and drive. For more information, you can visit the Orioles’ spring training website. The schedule along with prices and so forth hasn’t been released as of yet, however I would expect that within the next few weeks.
