Baltimore Orioles: Election day in Birdland

I’m going to make this fairly short today as America observes election day. My message is simple today: for whom you cast your ballot doesn’t make a lick of difference to me, for which party, etc. But exercise your constitutional right today and get out to your local polling place and cast your ballot. There’s much more than just the White House at stake today; 100% of the House of Representatives, 1/3rd of the Senate, and various Governorships are up for grabs. Each year we hear something to the effect of this is the most important election in our lifetime. I have news for people; every election is important, no matter what the stakes. If our country doesn’t run smoothly at it’s core (whether it’s run by Democrats or Republicans) there’s little point in us talking Baltimore Orioles baseball everyday!

Oct 14, 2012; Baltimore, MD, USA; Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter reacts to the crowd as he is introduced as the honorary captain before the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys at MWith that said, next Monday we’ll also see the results of the vote for Manager of the Year. Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter is one of the leading American League candidates, as is Washington Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson. Both of those deserving managers won The Sporting News’ award last month, so here’s to another clean sweep for mid-Atlantic managers for the Manager of the Year award as voted by the Baseball Writers of America next week!
