While the Baltimore Orioles’ 2012 season has just recently ended I’ve been very busy at Birds Watcher getting the “literary staff” set for 2013. We had a great response to the posting that Fansided ran inquiring about potential new writers, and I’m pleased to announce that as of today we’ve brought aboard Margaret Hooper as our newest staff writer. As you can see if you read her author’s page, she is removed from the Baltimore region, which I feel will give her a unique viewpoint given that she’s watching the games and events unfold from afar. She’s also the granddaughter of former Baltimore Colts’ and WBAL broadcaster Vince Bagli, so she’s fairly close to all Baltimore teams. On behalf of Birds Watcher and the Fansided Network, please join me in welcoming Margaret to our merry ship! You can expect her first posting later this coming week.

I’ve been in and around sports since I was a child as a player, coach, and a fan. I consistently led the league in technical fouls when I was a basketball coach, and one famous incident I was tossed out of a game for protecting a player from poor officiating. The Orioles beat the Oakland A’s 4-2 the first time my father took me to Memorial Stadium as a kid, and I was hooked for life. While the “old lady” was far from a thing of beauty, to that point I had never seen grass so green, tasted hot dogs so good, or smelled beer so cold! Since that day many years ago, each time I'm at a ballgame I pay a bit of homage to that eight year old boy sitting in Memorial Stadium with his father. See you at the yard!
