You know that we’re starting to get close to Baltimore turning from purple to orange (and black) when the O’s start releasing a list of spring training invites. First thing’s first…the Orioles reached a minor league deal (with an invite to spring training) with former Detroit Tiger Armando Galaraga. There were rumors that the O’s had signed him to a deal a few weeks ago, however they were erroneous. Nevertheless that’s now official, and Galaraga will be in camp for the Orioles in Sarasota. The O’s also signed pitcher Pat Neshek and catcher Ronnie Paulino to minor league deals today, and they will also be in camp at Ed Smith Stadium in a few weeks.
The other spring training invites include: LHP’s Ryan Edell and Dennys Reyes, RHP’s Willie Eyre, Steve Johnson, Jon Link, Miguel Socolovich and Oscar Villarreal. The O’s invited catchers John Hester and Brian Ward, infielder Steve Tolleson and outfielder Scott Beerer to camp at Ed Smith Stadium as well. (Steve Johnson is the son of former Oriole pitcher and current MASN analyst Dave Johnson.)
Pitchers and catchers’ first workouts in Sarasota are slated for February 19th, with the first full squad workout on February 24th.
