Buckle Up O’s Fans

This season will be a wild ride.

We’ve seen the highs like a 6-1 start to the season and we’ve seen the lows like the 8-game losing streak following that 6-1 start. It’s become pretty obvious that right now, the Orioles just do not have what it takes to get over that .500 hump. We’ve seen some 4, 5, 6 game winning streaks that bring the O’s to .500 or 1 or 2 games behind .500 but then we see a 3, 4, or 5 game losing streak, pushing them further back from .500.

That’s where we stand right now. 2 weeks ago on Monday June 6, the Orioles started what would be a 4 game winning streak including a sweep of the Oakland Athletics and a win against fellow division rivals Tampa Bay. At this time, their record was 30-31, just one away from .500 and 2 away from getting over that hump. However, the team then went on a 4 game losing streak losing the last 2 to the Rays and the first 2 games of the series against Toronto this weekend. Two of those 4 losses came in extra innings and terrible defensive plays played a big role in the losses as well. With their first win at Rogers Center in Toronto in 16 games today, the Orioles now stand at 31-35. So now they need to win 5 games to get over that .500 hump but will they be able to do it?

I highly doubt a 5-game winning streak is going to start right now. This weekend, the O’s take on the Nats in D.C. followed by the Pittsburgh Pirates. While these aren’t great ball clubs, they’re both hovering around the .500 mark as well and the way the O’s are playing right now…you can’t expect a sweep or two in a row, much less two series wins in a row.
