Roster Moves/Injury Updates

There’s been quite a few of these in the past few days and in case you’ve missed them, here they are:

RHP Brad Bergesen was optioned to Triple-A-Norfolk following his start against the Athletics. He went 1-6 with a 5.36 ERA in 10 games (9 starts).
Chris Tillman was also demoted to Triple-A-Norfolk. He went 2-3 in 10 starts with a 4.69 ERA.

To take Bergesen’s place in the bullpen, LHP Pedro Viola from Double-A-Bowie has been promoted.

To take Tillman’s place, Chris Jakubauskas is expected to be called up as well.

The biggest news is that Brian Matusz will be activated on Wednesday and get the start against the Mariners. This is obviously great news and makes it a very exciting time for the team and for fans. With both the demotions, the Orioles will be running on a 4-man rotation, taking advantage of their many off-days coming up. They wouldn’t need a 5th starter until June 7 where Alfredo Simon will be available to make a spot start. If that’s the case, the O’s will be good until June 18 so that gives Tillman and Bergesen plenty of time in Norfolk to improve their stuff.

Finally, Adam Jones came out of Sunday’s game with a sore shoulder. He is expected to be in the line-up today (Monday) and has dealt with on and off shoulder soreness for a while. Derrek Lee has started baseball activities (jogging, playing catch, taking ground balls) and has done well and will soon begin batting practice and taking live at-bats and he could be back as early as this week.
