Garrett Atkins was born December 12, 1979, in Orange, California. Atkins was drafted out of High School, but elected to go the college route. He was one of biggest recruited players coming out of California, and ultimately decided to attend UCLA. During his time at UCLA, Atkins achieved many accomplishments, such as a 33-game hitting streak while also becoming the first three-time All-American. While at UCLA, Atkins played both first and third base.
Atkins was drafted in 2000 by the Rockies in the fifth round (137th overall). He broke into the majors three years later during the 2003 season. He appeared in [...]

The first four guys in the starting rotation are set with Millwood, Guthrie, Bergesen, and Matusz, which leaves one spot left. Last season Berken and Hernandez were in the rotation, but after their lackluster performance I doubt they will have a spot this season. Although I really like Berken, I don’t see him being anything more than an organizational depth player. Hernandez, did well last season holding guys on base will probably be moved to the pen unless he has a spectacular spring training. This leaves one sensible option for the 5th spot in the rotation, Chris Tillman.
Tillman will not [...]

The Orioles announced that they’ve reached agreement with Jeremy Guthrie on a one-year contract, thus avoiding an arbitration hearing next week and any potential hard feelings.
Guthrie filed for $3.625 million and the Orioles countered with $2.3 million. They agreed to $3 million, the projected figure based on past settlements.
Guthrie earned $650,000 last season while going 10-17 with a 5.04 ERA and a league-high 35 homers allowed in 33 starts covering 200 innings.

The Orioles signed veteran Will Ohman to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. A few weeks ago the Orioles watched Ohman throw a bullpen session in Arizona and must have been impressed. Ohman, 32, went 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA in 21 relief appearances last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He’s trying to prove himself healthy after coming off of elbow and shoulder surgeries. The signing should put extra pressure on Wilfrido Perez, Alberto Castillo, and non-roster invitee Mike Hinckle to earn a spot in the bullpen. The O’s were targeting Ohman last season until he [...]

News coming out of the organization has been thin this week, so let’s take a look at a few of Baltimore’s top sports players. Most of us that are from Baltimore can agree that we are the forgotten city. Places such as DC, Philly, and New York always seem to take our glamour. It’s okay though because we know our tradition and that we are one of the best cities in the country.
Their is no one even close that meant more to a team and a city as a hole than Cal Ripken, Jr. He was raised in the town of [...]

A lot of rumors have been swirling around today about Bedard resigning with the Mariners. Bedard himself said recently that he would love to be back in Seattle with Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez at the top of the rotation. The contract is apparently one-year $1.5 with a lot of incentives.
I was a huge supporter of bringing back Bedard, so I’m bothered by the news. He would of added depth to our young pitching staff. It would of also gave the organization an opportunity to see what young pitcher isn’t ready yet a few months into the season, send him [...]
