We do Have Options

AUTHOR: Michael | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

I’m not going to get into great detail about some of the options the team has, but I’ll name a few. So far this young off-season we’ve heard some trade and free-agency rumors. Some make sense, some are laughable.
Dan Uggla- For about a week we’ve been hearing the O’s are actively trying to work a deal with the Marlins for Dan Uggla. It was reported the Marlins are asking for a second level pitcher. I’m not exactly sure what that will include in our organization. Maybe it would be Hernandez, or maybe it would be somebody like Berken.  If this [...]

Orioles Claim Armando Gabino

AUTHOR: Michael | IN: Orioles General | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Orioles made minor news today, claiming Twins pitcher Armando Gabino off waivers.  Gabino, is a big guy at 6-4 and only 26 years old. The now Orioles pitcher went 6-4 with three saves and a 2.94 ERA (98.0IP, 32ER) in 38 games (seven starts) with Triple-A Rochester in 2009.
He also had his major league debut this past season, against no other team than the O’s.  He allowed four runs and five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Not impressive stats, but also not enough MLB innings to see his true value.
Gabino will be put on our 40-man roster, leaving only [...]

AUTHOR: Michael | IN: Orioles General | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Orioles lost three players today, Rich Hill, Jeff Fiorentino, and Guillermo Rodriguez. All three decided to refuse an outright assignment to triple-A Norfolk, instead will file for free-agency. The Orioles decided not to put them on the 40 man roster, but elected to send them to Norfolk after they cleared waivers. The three had different feelings though, and decided to try and catch on with another club. Well, maybe.
I can’t help but not care too much about this news, other than I’m a little on the content side. Rich Hill could not stay healthy, could not find his control, and [...]

Would Atkins Fit?

AUTHOR: Michael | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The past few days, we’ve been hearing rumors that the Orioles are interested in signing 3rd baseman Garrett Atkins. My first thought when I heard about signing him was ‘no way’, and I feel even stronger about it now. Yes, we do need somebody to replace Mora at the hot-corner, but Atkins is not the answer.
Garrett Atkins has only had 4 proven seasons in the majors. Not that he’s necessarily a bad player; he just has a lot of downside. He finished up this past season with a .226 BA, which is not the production we need from a power [...]
