Orioles Interested in Chapman

The Orioles made it public that they will be targeting defected Cuban pitcher, Aroldis Chapman. I mentioned Chapman a couple posts ago, and I still stand by what I wrote. I believe that Chapman would be a great addition to our club; although I’m not a scout, what I’ve seen, and he looks major league ready.

Chapman will be one of those guys that once he’s settled into the league, he will be able to dominant. He’s a big guy at 6’4 an only 22 years old. Obviously with his size, age, and playing against decent competition in the WBC he has a lot of upside.

“We do plan to meet with him next week, within the next 10 days,” Orioles director of international scouting John Stockstill told MASN.

Unfortunately, I believe we are a long-shot with Chapman, and I can’t blame him. We haven’t been winners in a long time, smaller market, and can’t dish up money like other teams. I have to add though; I don’t believe we’re at the bottom of the list either. We have an advantage of youth on our side, Chapman and his agent may realize how great of a situation it would be for him to grow and develop with our young guys who are around the same age. Most likely though, we won’t offer him top money, as we need a lot of offensive improvement.
