Luke Scott Will Be Where?

by Orioles General

Orioles Rays Baseball Since Felix Pie was traded to the Orioles, their has been much speculation to where Scott will be playing.  The most likely position would be DH, but he stated last week that he’d rather be in the field instead of sitting on the bench watching the other guys play half the game. Scott is a nice guy, and we all know he won’t publicly complain if he is our full time DH.

Another option for Scott would be at first base, which I don’t see happening on a regular bases. Huff said that last season he would of liked to play in the field more, so they will probably give him first for at least till the all-star break.

What I’ve been thinking is why does Luke have to leave left field at all. He was a decent fielder last season and stayed consistent. True he doesn’t make it look pretty but he gets the job done. Pie who came up through the Cubs organization as a center fielder has proved nothing in left field, nor the plate. Another factor that could lead to Scott keeping left is that Pie still hasn’t showed up to spring training.

    Hey Michael,
Welcome to Fan Sided! My name is Kellen Barton, and I’m a lead blogger for titansized.com. I’m also a born and raised Orioles fan, and am excited about your blog.
In terms of Luke Scott, there are a number of questions. Scott has become somewhat of a fan favorite, and I’ve gotten the impression that Trembley’s been pretty big on Scott since day one. Honestly, though, 400 AB’s in any circumstance is probably optimistic.
Pie’s gonna play. If he pans out like the O’s would like him to, then the Orioles have perhaps the best, youngest outfield in the game.
Between Scott, Freel and Wiggington there will be some real decisions to make as to who will get at bats. Pie will get more opportunities at left than anyone else, so those other guys will probably need to play themselves in the line-up. A line-up that has Scott currently penciled in at DH.
Luke will have to be productive at the plate, because out of the afforementioned guys, he’s got the least going for him, in terms of defense, which has become a priority in the organization.
It should be pretty interesting to see what happens, and I wouldn’t be amazed if some of those guy’s get some at bats from Melvin Mora at some point in the season.

  2. Thanks, I have to admit I’m not much of a titans fan, as I’m a proud ravens fan haha.  I believe Scott will share time in left with Pie, and time at first with Huff, and also DH. The Orioles have a very movable defense I’d say with Wiggington and Freel being able to play multiple positions, and Scott can play 2 or 3, and Pie can play two. If and injury does occur, I don’t believe the offensive production would go down much with all the solid bench players we have.
