Roberts Deal

Posted by: Michael

So it looks like Brian Roberts will sign a 4 year extension worth 40 million, which will run through the 2013 season. Overall, I don’t believe to many Oriole fans are raising any fuss over this deal. Yes, we would of liked it to be a 3 year deal, but we have arguably the third best second baseman locked up.  Roberts will be a asset to this organization until the last day of his contract, with his hustle and knowledge of the game. This signing also shows all the guys in the minors that if you succeed and continue to work hard, the organization will stick with you.

Expect Andy MacPhail to make a official announcement today, or Saturday. Now that Markakis and Roberts are locked up, whose left to be free agents after this season? Huff, Scott, Mora, Sherrill and that’s just off the top of my head. Will be interesting to see if by the trade deadline and were far below .500 if we will move Mora, of course that would mean him agreeing to drop his no trade clause.

Update: Roberts passed his physical and the Orioles will announce his extension later today.
